VerticalMan® continues to drive innovation in lone worker safety thanks to wearable technology

For VerticalMan® safety, especially of lone workers, is the core. That’s why we have embraced innovations in wearable technology and supported RealWear device.

With RealWear we continue a path in the world of wearable devices started some time ago with the introduction of small Bluetooth sensor on the belt instead of a Smartphone.

Why is wearable technology important?

One of the issues maintenance workers and other specific categories of workers have to face is to have both hands free to operate and to have immediate access at the information.

Try to think at a maintenance worker in oil and gas, if a pipe is damaged he needs immediately to act to guarantee safety. At the same time he could need additional support that means he has to collect data, bring the data to colleagues, analyse and come back to fix the problem.

What do you think if I told you that today he can be faster and more efficient?

What do you think if I tell you he can directly send the data to back office engineers and immediately operate to fix the problem?

Surely you see a saving both in timing and in costs (less travel/less time, etc.)

And try to imagine the same system applied to the health sector. A doctor visiting a patient could talk at the same time and consult a colleague in another part of the world, or in addition a doctor can regularly monitor a patient also if not in the same room…

How it is possible are you now asking yourself!

Thanks to Realwear! more than a wearable tablet.

What is Realwear wearable technology?

Realwear HMT-1 is aesthetically a device you can wear on your helmet, but functionally it is more than a computer.

It is PPE compatible and it has a display that appears as a 7” tablet and it gives hand-free user experience thanks to a voice based operating system.

Resistant to water, dust, hard temperature makes it perfect for external work . There is also a specific version created for ATEX & IECEx Zone 1.

How does a wearable technology as RealWear work?

Just wear it and it can help you for example in communication with technicians in office, you can make videos or photos of the problem you need to solve, while doing a maintenance you can consult an update video, or a manual instruction that helps you to proceed in the right way with the new machine for example.

There are thousands of improvement for workers, and you can activate all with voice control. No need to use your hands, you can continue to work while receiving or sending the information.

VerticalMan® , the man down App for lone worker, is integrated in this new device. We have developed the interface to tell what to do and also the audio interface, working with a RealWear partner in Singapore.

Which are the benefits of using RealWear integrated with VerticalMan® feature?

Lone workers are the main category that will have benefits from the use of wearable technologies, because these innovations will make them more independent in their day-to-day work.

One of the benefit of the integration of VerticalMan® and Realwear is that lone worker does not need to have with him several devices: he has all the functionality of VerticalMan® inside RealWear.

The integration of VerticalMan®, man down app, does not interfere with the other functionalities of the device and it is studied so that it does not generate false alarms.

We have seen how wearable technology have revolutionised not only the workflow, also in manufacturing and maintenances, but also safety for all workers. We have also seen how this technology can improve day-to-day work of lone workers, who are already protected today thanks to VerticalMan®.

A device as RealWear will change the future of several type of work, safety of workers, and also of training by doing.
